What Happens if I Have an Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tear?

For those patients that do find themselves in that challenging situation of having an irreparable rotator cuff tear, we then talk about different treatment options.

There are still options available to those patients. These include things like tendon transfers, procedures where we use allograph or cadaver tissue to help reconstruct the rotator cuff and the capsule of the shoulder.

There’s also replacement options or arthroplasty, where we use a reverse shoulder arthroplasty to treat those patients.
And so, we have to take into consideration the patient’s age, their activity level, their treatment goals, and then really have to narrow down what the best treatment option is for that person based on their specific scenario.

There is not a one size fits all approach when you find yourself in that irreparable rotator cuff category.
